Ever since I can remember,
I have been working with my hands welding, brazing cutting and building
things with various metals and other materials while working in the
shipbuilding/ ship repair industry. I spent the last 10 years of work
as a Trades Instructor and retired in 1998. Retirement doesn’t mean
quitting for me but I did need something new, so I turned to
woodworking, building curio cabinets, book cases and general
woodworking. I was fairly successful in that but I needed more so I
tried woodturning and at last, I found what I really enjoyed doing. I
design and turn segmented bowls, such as southwest style but I got a
little lonely doing that style alone. My specialty now is more natural
style, turning burls, natural bark edge and highly figured wood. I am
no longer lonely because I have a new friend whose name is “Wood”. Wood
does talk, believe it or not and helps me create the final end product
which is the most pleasing to the eye.
