We are currently seeking new artists to become
members in our gallery. Please read the information below and consider
joining us!NEW Member Application Information
Thank you for your
interest in joining our gallery. We are a not-for-profit, cost-sharing
entity that provides local artisans the opportunity to display and sell
their work in a high-quality, low-overhead environment. The
administration of the cooperative is by a group of elected, appointed
and volunteer members, as set forth in our bylaws. Our gallery
functions best when we have around 40 members. Since we have limited
space, and place great value on our artists, much thought goes into
proper display of their work. Our customers appreciate the high quality
workmanship and variety of art we exhibit, and frequently comment,
positively, on the experience they have while in our people-friendly
gallery.
Work Shifts:
Each member agrees to work in the gallery for 16 hours/month (this may
vary from time to time as the number of members varies and seasonal
requirements dictate) In addition to working shifts, and because this
is a cooperative venture, all members are expected to do a share of
the actual running of the gallery and help in its activities. It is
only fair that a prospective member has a clear understanding of the
commitment membership in our gallery requires. If your sole intent in
joining is to show your artwork for a particular selling season-and
the long-term cooperative commitment is not of interest-this is not
the selling outlet for you. We consider ourselves partners in a
business and our success depends on our members working together.
Sales and
Commissions: The gallery sells only the works
of our members, and all sales are on a consignment basis. An artist’s
first $75 in sales per month is commission-free, after the first $75 a
commission of 15%is charged. In addition, each artist pays the
surcharge for any VISA/MASTERCARD sale (currently 2.5%)
Rents, Insurance,
and Set-up Charges: Once a month ( before the
10th) each member pays $60.00 toward rent and operating
expenses, regardless of sales. Once a year each member pays a share of
the insurance premium (currently $20 per member/year) There is a
one-time set-up charge of $25.00, payable upon acceptance into the
gallery.
When a vacancy in
our membership occurs, all applications for
membership are seriously considered. Once an artist submits an
application, he/she is invited to an initial screening. The artist
submits five representative samples of work, clearly marked with retail
prices, a résumé, an artist statement and any other supportive
materials. This screening allows the Membership Committee to evaluate
the artist’s work for quality, originality, marketability, and overall
appropriateness to our gallery, as well as the opportunity to view the
applicant as a possible member. The applicant’s materials are left with
the Membership Chairman. The final screening (without the applicant)
takes place at the monthly evening meeting of the general Verksted
membership: there the Membership committee presents the applicant’s
work and voices any recommendations for acceptance or rejection of the
applicant. A secret vote is taken. The following day the Membership
Chairman informs the applicant, both by phone and by letter of the
vote, and instructs the applicant to pick up his/her work samples as
soon as possible. If an applicant has been accepted for membership
he/she will receive further instructions. New artists become active the
month
following their
acceptance into the gallery.
Above information of rates and fees subject to change without notice.
