Artist Statement

My grandfather, Nicholas, came from Norway, where he learned to make the tine (pronounced tina) which are covered oval baskets of bent wood, and korge, round wooden baskets. He brought his skills to the United States in 1897, where he continued to make tine and korge for his family and friends. My father learned to make tine as a small boy by helping his father.

I occasionally helped my father throughout his years of making tina's but did not actually go into the business for myself until recently. I sold a few to local businesses but made my baskets mostly for  friends. One day a member of the Verksted Gallery told me about Poulsbo and the gallery and how well my work would fit in with the Scandinavian atmosphere.

The tradition carries on.....
