Artist Statement:
Karen is one of the original members
of the Verksted Gallery which opened in April, 1987. At the time she
was making "fun" chocolates and was known as the "Chocolate Lady".
Later her creative interests evolved
into sewing with felt and faux fur. As someone who has sewn since she
was eight years old, it was a natural direction for her to take.
Karen sews teddy bears and other
collectible critters from faux fur She also makes greeting cards with
her sketching and pen and ink. She has sketched and drawn since
childhood and has experimented with pencil, watercolor, oil, acrylic,
and pen and ink. Her sketching is done on the antler art her husband,
Jerry, creates, and accented with
colored pencil.
Karen has lived in Poulsbo and
Kingston since 1964.
