Artist Statement:
The first significant art award I
received was in high school for a travel poster featuring themes
from the Pacific Northwest. I remember that the instructor
initially chastised me because we were in Kansas City, Missouri and
I had admitted to her that I had never been to the Pacific
Northwest. “You shouldn’t try to paint something that you haven’t
seen for yourself,” she said. But I won a Scholastic Society gold
key award, anyway.
Since 1978 I
have lived in the Puget Sound region and I still enjoy painting
themes based upon the Pacific Northwest. Nature provides limitless
inspiration and something about living here has led me to develop a
new and distinctive style of painting which, to me at least,
combines what I like about three distinct artist movements: French
impressionism, Oriental stylization, and traditional First Nations
renderings. This is a great place to live and work.
