Artist
Statement:
Marcia began her artistic
journey over 30 years ago as a naturalist, drawing scenes from nature.
Her inspiration has always come from nature. Fairies were at first a
hobby. In 1994 that all changed when Marcia debuted her original four
and a half inch tall Garden Fairies at the prestigious Bellevue Museum
Show, in Bellevue, WA, where she promptly sold out. In the past decade
her fairies have remained true to form with small stylistic changes
along the way. Her one-of-a-kind figures begin with a poseable wire
armature, and hand-sculpted head and hands made from designer doll clay
from the Netherlands. They are dressed with vintage flowers and trims,
many of which are antique and from Paris. When asked why she continues
to create fairies, Marcia replied,:
"As an artist, the journey has been exploration of personal creativity.
Fairies represent the imagination that is stifled in most of us."
Also included in Marcia's figurative art repertoire are pixies, puddle
maids, and distinctive fairytale creatures like The Frog Princess and
the Three Blind Mice. The latter garnered her a top award at the Linda
Mullins' Show in San Diego, CA. Most recently, she has expanded her
line to include jewelry – Wishing Fairy and Wishing Wand pins. The pins
are also one-of-a-kind, most adorned with a variety of Swaravski
crystals, authentic pearls, and enameled beads. While her artistic
journey has taken her through many medias, Peterson believes she'll be
working with fairies in some form or another for the rest of her
artistic career.
A book is in the works. |
