Artist Statement:
Inspired by the raw beauty of the Pacific Northwest,
Marguerite strives to create unique pieces of art that stimulate the
visual and tactical senses while serving a functional purpose in
everyday life - "functional art."
About the Artist:
As a child, Marguerite would sit on the steps of her family's garage
and watch her father build furniture and other small items for use
in their home. She was too young to use the tools, but her father
would give her small scraps of lumber so she could "build" her own
creations. She loved the texture and smell of the different types of
lumber and would play with the wood scraps for hours creating pieces
in her imagination.
In the late 1980s, she inherited her father's tools and her passion
for wood was rekindled. As she discovered the amazing world of
exotic and domestic lumbers, the unique character that could be
found in different species fascinated her. She found herself
bringing home unusual pieces of lumber "just because". A true
reverse-woodworker, she rarely works from a plan she lets the raw
piece of wood drive the design. Her passion for bringing the beauty
of nature to every day life has resulted in the creation of works
that are treasured in homes and collections in the United States and
Western Europe.
