Artist Statement:

I sketched and painted through childhood and after raising children and retiring from Civil Service I started taking classes in painting techniques, composition and values. My first medium was oil, then acrylics and at last use watercolors almost exclusively.

My calligraphy started in 1984 when my daughter needed moral support while SHE took a class. I made tons of posters and flyers and started
collecting whimsical expressions and poetry to sell. The watercolor medium worked well along with cartooning on my "whimsies"

The art instructor in my high school taught at college level; later I took classes from Virginia Hawkins at Olympic College, watercolor from Toni Nelson and Willa McKee and sketching and painting from Phyllis Oliver, and attended whatever workshops were available.

It is important for artists to work and share with one another, so in 1983 I co- founded the Poulsbo Artist League where members encourage each other, provide occasional instructions, workshops, lectures and meet weekly to paint together.

In 1987 Elizabeth Haney and I formed the Verksted Gallery in downtown Poulsbo which now represents up to 40 artists of many mediums.
