Artist Statement:

I have always enjoyed art, creativity, and experimenting with different materials, however the biggest influences on my art development were my art courses at Scripps College in Claremont, California, and my love of nature. Growing up in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene, I spent a lot of time hiking and boating, and grew to love the outdoors. At Scripps College, I was able to carry that love of nature a step further, creating semi-abstract sculptures of plants, bones, and landscapes.

Although my career for 25 years was in the field of speech pathology, my first love has always been art. After retiring in 2006, I had the time to further develop my skills in a variety of media, including oils, watercolors, linoleum block prints, and mosaic tile and wood sculptures. I currently live in Poulsbo with my husband, Jim, and dog, Sergeant Pepper. We continue to enjoy outdoor activities, especially hiking, kayaking, and gardening. I recently completed the WSU Master Gardener Program and am often found volunteering in community gardens and at the Poulsbo Farmer’s Market. My love of plants, forests, and the great outdoors continues to inspire much of my work.
