SCUBA Diver Kathy Barrett draws inspiration from the mesmerizing beauty of the ocean and it's unique inhabitants. Kiln formed and blown glass are a reflection of the life forms encountered during her numerous undersea dives.
Kathy's background as a commercial artist, architectural illustrator and interior designer gave way to fine art in 1991 when she turned to painting. Then in 2002 she began glassblowing as a way to express her wondrous experiences of underwater life. With a submersible camera, Kathy shoots creatures of the deep at close range, and armed with these photographs as reference material, images are transformed into colorful art glass pieces.
Kathy’s glass pieces are created by glass blowing, kiln forming or lampworking.
Sometimes she will combine all three techniques in one piece.
