Surrounded by Washington's natural wonders, my paintings are deeply rooted in my affinity with nature. I am an oil painter, primarily raised in Poulsbo, Washington. I received a BFA from Washington State University, where I worked mainly in oil painting and sculptural ceramics. 

In my paintings I connect with the uncultivated beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Joyfully, I feel a part of the things that I see. Summer backpacking trips, and frequent en plein air sessions take me outside year round. The hard work it takes to hike to remote views with my loved ones, or sit alone for hours in the cold is an integral part of my painting process.

 

I spend a lot of time painting rocks, trees, and waves. When compiled, these individual elements become grand mountains, forests and oceans. Nature’s unified strength reflects the importance of connection with others in our communities. When people experience my work, I want them to reflect on the joy that comes from being members of a greater picture, just as a single tree is a part of a great forest. My work explores how we can learn to slow down and commune with something larger than ourselves.
