   I started painting some 25 years ago.  I needed something for the walls and couldn’t afford to buy what I liked.  And how hard could it be?  Well, the first 8 or 9 years of work were a poor use of canvas.  But after, progress came rapidly.  
My paintings combine distinct high-contrast lines, with smooth blended color.  Subjects should be instantly recognizable, though often placed in unfamiliar surroundings.  I hope the viewer is slightly bewildered, but not uncomfortable.  I often choose animals as their emotions are subtle, or non-existent.  I don’t want to signal to the viewer what they should feel about the painting.  I also particularly enjoy painting the shine and reflections created by liquid. 
I’ve been commissioned to paint family pets and I would enjoy doing more.  I would like to do portraits of people if the opportunity arises. 
As a younger person, I was a dedicated ballet student, studying in the US and Spain in the 1980s.  I worked for Lockheed in the late 80s and 90s, helping launch satellites.  Most recently I worked for Nike in their Legal department, until my retirement.
